Peggy Flemming
In 1968, Peggy Fleming won an Olympic gold medal in Grenoble, France, and helped usher in a new era for figure skating.
It would be the only gold medal the United States brought home from those games.
Today, she still remains the calm and graceful symbol of a sport that has weathered a storm of popularity and controversy.
Peggy has been invited to the White House by four different administrations and, in 1980, she was the first skater ever to perform there.
Since 1981, Peggy has been an on-air analyst for ABC Sports. She also is the proud mother of two boys, a grandmother, and has been happily married for 36 years.
In January of 1998, Peggy faced a new challenge: the diagnosis of breast cancer. Her prognosis is excellent, and she is sharing her experience with the public so that other women will be strengthened.
The lessons Peggy learned as a determined young skater helped shape the grown woman she is today, and she says she is very grateful for the journey.
